Not sure about you, being a stay at home mom has made exercise difficult. At the time in my life when I most likely need more exercise, I seem to be doing less. And two kids later, that less has somehow morphed into less than less. Our regular post, entitled Fitting in Fitness, has helped me become more motivated to try to figure out how to put exercise back into my life. And with spring approaching, I’m dreading giving up my comfy sweats for shorts and a slimmer tshirt.
I was recently approached by a great mom and kid-friendly exercise business called One Fit Mama to experience their unique style of exercise. I participated in one of their exercise courses with my older son in tow at the Suburban Sports Training Center in Conshohocken. One Fit Mama offers classes in both Montgomery and Chester Counties, so there is sure to be one near you if you are not local to the “Conshy” area.
The class I attended had about 10 moms, and about 15 children in attendance. The kids ranged in age from newborns to 4 years old. Moms exercised with babies in strollers, or strapped in a front carrier, or with their toddlers running circles around them (this would be the category for my little man and I). It was really like a playgroup for the kids while the moms got down to business.
It’s amazing the workout I was able to get the my son with me. I would completely classify it as a workout – not just some light exercising. We did a warm up and warm down, but the in between left me using muscles I forgot that I had, and that I didn’t realize I was neglecting! It also reminded me that I still need to do a few kegel exercises since having the boys!
I really loved that I was able to get a workout in without having to put my child in a daycare setting. The venue we were at gave my exuberant son ample space to run around like the wild man he is! A mat, a water bottle and maybe a ball for my son were really all I needed for the class. Oh, and a good sports bra for the running and jumping in class – in the past 3 years I’ve been living in nursing bras and I had no idea how ill-fitting my sports bra was (boy it was snug!).
Leaving the class I knew that I would be “feeling it the next day”. And I certainly did. I can really say that I had a full, well-rounded workout – and FUN too!
