With two boys, we are often building things and knocking them down. The activity itself is great for hand-eye coordination, and for learning how to stack items. Generally, my older son gets upset when his younger brother comes and steamrolls his building. We often find ways to try to teach them to work together, that one can build and one knock over or taking turns adding a block to the building. With all this construction, it’s no wonder that Bob the Builder is a regular in our TV show lineup.
I like that Bob stresses working together as a team, as well as building and/or fixing things. This basis for never being alone, and always having someone to help, is a great message for kids, and something that I like being reiterated to my children. I also favor the episodes when the characters realize that they can’t do it all and ask for help. Asking for help is not a failure, it’s part of the path for success.
The latest in the Bob the Builder DVD series is scheduled for release on August 16, 2011. We had the opportunity to preview the new DVD, “Bob the Builder: Super Scrambler” prior to release and the boys just loved it. My sons saw the DVD case and there was not much stopping them from the repeated chorus of “Can we watch Bob now? Can we???”. I generally do not allow the boys to watch 4 episodes in a row (and 45 minutes TV) so early in the morning, but as it was 6:45am on a Sunday I was more than willing to accommodate the request!
About Bob the Builder: Super Scrambler
It’s super-sized fun in four exciting adventures! Scrambler wants to be a Super-Smasher hero while he builds Farmer Pickles’ milk shed. He works alongside the whole Can-Do crew to get the job done! Wendy, Travis and Muck show the team there’s more to strength than lifting heavy blocks and that following instructions is always important. Bob and his crew finish the job with the super power of tools and teamwork!
- “Travis’ New Garage”
- “Scratch and the Dream Home”

There are also two bonus episodes and a music video included on the DVD.
*Disclosure: I was provided an advance copy of the program DVD in exchange for this post.
