It’s amazing how the little things can slide. A photo here, a receipt there, a craft forgotten in a drawer or a milestone’s exact date blurred. I really tried to get myself organized when I had my first child, but then #2 came along 18 months later and any sort of organization just went out the window.
Sigh. I used to be such a well-organized (and on-time!) individual.
We are now beginning the next phase in my little family’s life: preschool. It’s a milestone, to be sure, but it has me filled with new school year jitters just like in the old days. “How to Get Organized” is a question that I have been trying to bat out of my mind frequently. I’ve always been one for trying to be sure that I have all my ducks in a row, my i’s dotted and t’s crossed. Now I have the responsibility to do all three of those things AND get a 3 year old and 19 month old ready in the morning!
And what of the papers that will be sent home? I’m envisioning my son with his little preschool backpack and the mountains of artwork and parent sign off forms heading my way. Will the forms end up in a pile on the counter and the artwork tacked on the fridge or shoved in a drawer lost for (nearly) ever? We can barely keep on top of the mail pile and now we are adding school work to the mix??!!
I have recognized that we definitely need to have some assistance on the topic of “How to Declutter” which is why I have started to use a service provided by AboutOne. This business provides moms like me with a digital filing system and more, so that I can keep track of not only school information, but health records, artwork and household maintenance. We have papers scattered everywhere, and if the time comes when I have to locate something important, I want to have one place to look. I’ve used AboutOne for a few days now and I have all my family’s general information entered, the dates of household projects such as our new window replacement added and uploaded a few photos as well. I’m feeling like we are getting there in terms of organization, which is a start.
With the start of school fast approaching, I’m looking forward to some first day of school photos snapped from my smartphone that I can email directly to my inbox and load into AboutOne. I think a family newsletter might be in store for that special day!
