on September 11 from 10am to 1pm
Families are invited for a day of fun, entertainment, and food allergy education presented by the Kids With Food Allergies Foundation.
Did you know recent studies have shown that one in 12 children have a food allergy and of those affected, 39 percent have a history of severe reaction and 30 percent are allergic to multiple foods? To educate the community about this growing issue, the Kids With Food Allergies Foundation (KFA) will host the 3rd annual Strides for Safe Kids Expo and Fundraiser on Sunday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Plymouth Meeting Mall.
The event will feature entertainment for children of all ages including butterfly and dinosaur exhibits from the Elmwood Park Zoo, a live music performance by food allergy Musician and Entertainer Kyle Dine, and activities based on the popular children’s book, Everyday Cool with Food Allergies. Also, families will be able to find practical information about food allergies and learn about new types of foods and products for kids with food allergies.
“Families tell us this is their favorite day of the year,” said Lynda Mitchell, president of KFA. “This year our expo will feature characters and educational messages from Dr. Michael Pistiner’s book Everyday Cool with Food Allergies as a means to help children learn how to stay safe. Further, families get to connect with others who understand the day to day challenges of living with food allergies in a safe and fun atmosphere while also raising funds to support our mission.”
All funds raised will be used to create educational materials and strengthen KFA’s online support groups. KFA provides a place where families can go to develop the crucial skills they need to keep their children safe, healthy and well-nourished, now and in the future. Prizes will be offered for fundraising; the top fundraiser will receive a baseball signed by Raul Ibanez of the Philadelphia Phillies. Outfielder Ibanez was recently diagnosed with food allergies himself.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. on the day of the event, but participants are encouraged to register early online at www.firstgiving.com/KFA/KFA-Expo-09-11-2011. KFA is aiming to raise $25,000 from fundraising.
