Moms have a lot of decisions to make when it comes to caring for their little ones: working vs. staying at home, disposable vs. cloth diapers, co-sleeping vs. sleeping in their room, regular vs. decaf. Feeding your children is one of the biggest choices a mother makes.
I happened to make the choice to breastfeed when I had daughter #1 3 years ago. As with any feeding decision a mother makes for her child (whether it be formula or breast milk), it did not come without its difficulties: when to feed, worrying how much the baby was getting, concern for supply, having to nurse in public (eek!), risk of infection, discomfort. For our family, it was the best choice, economically and health-wise. So we overcame our obstacles and I successfully breastfed daughter #1 for 12 months.
I am now on month 8 of breastfeeding daughter #2. Even the second time around, I have faced frustrations and obstacles. I’ve come to realize the one of the best ways to face breastfeeding obstacles is to have good products and helpful resources at hand. While I do have some great products that have helped me with the baby stage, one of the regrets I have is not getting a better breast pump.
The breast pump I have was a gift I received when daughter #1 was born. I knew nothing about pumps, nor did I realize how important pumping was (and how important a quality pump is!) at the time. I figured I was staying home with my daughter, and could breastfeed whenever I needed. Why would I need to pump? It did not take long to realize what a great resource pumping is for breastfeeding! Having a bottle to give a babysitter for the much needed time away from the house, or a bottle of expressed milk to throw in the diaper bag for an outing so you don’t have to struggle with nursing aprons/blankets to feed a squirmy baby while attempting not to show off “the goods.” I also had no idea that pumping regularly actually HELPED milk supply.
I’ve learned a lot in the last 3 years!
So when Medela offered to sponsor a party through MommyParties for a few of my soon-to-be or new mom friends, I was ecstatic! If there is a go-to company for quality breastfeeding products and resources, it’s Medela.
The party was a hit! All of us girls gabbed about motherhood, ate good food (hey, we had some pregnant ladies there, you know there was noshing!) and shared tips on breastfeeding. All the girls came away with nice little gift packages from Medela that included samples of Disposable Bra Pads, Micro-Steam clean bags, Clean wipes, and a helpful informational guide.

BUT – one lucky winner’s name was drawn for the grand prize:
Jen, the cute winner in the picture, is due to have her second boy in just a few weeks. Jen has a unique experience with breastfeeding, and I asked if she’d share a bit of her story with her first son, and her hopes for breastfeeding son #2:
