Looking for an organic home delivery food service? Look no further than Suburban Organics. Founded in 1997, Suburban Organics is a well established business. Everything they offer is 100% organic PLUS you do not have to have a commitment term or cancellation fee to join in the organic produce fun.
Local, in-season produce is available for delivery when you purchase from Suburban Organics. Buying local and supporting local farmers is important to me and this information was great to know. I also love this quote from their website: “We bring you organic produce that’s so fresh you have to wash the dirt off it!” They weren’t kidding. I’m used to seeing organic foods at our local grocery store freshly washed. It was fabulous to see my food actually came directly to me from the earth!
3 Yams, 1 Red Leaf Lettuce, 1 Bunched Beets, 1 Cucumber, 1 Carrots with tops, 2 Braeburn Apples, 1 Rainbow Chard, 1 Avocado, 1 Lime, 1 Cherry Tomatoes (container), 2 Bartlett Pears, 4 Bananas, 2 Valencia Oranges
We scheduled our delivery day for a Tuesday morning. I could see the Suburban Organics van outside. Seeing the logo of the business on the vehicle always comforts me and makes me feel a bit more at ease when I open the door. The delivery man was well dressed and holding a perfect box of my organic foods. Seriously, I’m used to receiving such beat up boxes via delivery services and this one was impeccable. I knew that I would have perfect looking food inside just by seeing the condition of the box.
As I imagined, the perfect box on the outside contained perfect food on the inside. There were some foods in the box that I knew that my picky eating toddler and preschooler would love (apples, bananas, carrots) and some that I knew I would need to be a little tricky with to get them to taste (hello beets!). A friend of mine recommended making mashed potatoes and using the beets to add a fun red color to them. We can certainly have some silly fun doing with this!
I also wanted to try a simple recipe using the Rainbow Chard. The recipe called for garlic, lemon and a little bit of crushed red pepper. While cooking, the fragrance gave me the impression that I was in a restaurant. I couldn’t wait to try it! The only flaw was my heavy handedness of the seasoning. Next time I know to either add more Rainbow Chard or a bit less seasoning! It looked fabulous paired with dinner!
We brought the apples and bananas along with us on a little family outing to the Philadelphia Zoo. They were the perfect tasting, on-the-go snack to have for the boys after a day of running around checking out the animals! I’m trying the pears next and am crossing my fingers that my picky duo will love them as well. If not, I certainly will!
