As moms, we all need our sleep. Our precious, very well-earned and much desired sleep. Why is it so hard to find the right mattress or pillow to aid in this basic need? As far as pillows go, I’ve gone with the super pricey and the bottom barrel variety. Nothing seems to work, or work for very long. In fact, I often sleep with one pillow as a back up, just in case during the night I wake up uncomfortable and need to switch out the pillow under my head. Crazy, right?
Nature’s Sleep offered to send me one of their memory foam pillows as well as one of their faux down pillows to test out. I thought, why not? Nothing else seems to work and I’ve heard so many people who swear by memory foam.
The pillows arrived and the faux down pillow felt like the typical pillow you find in a store. It was soft, lightweight and the standard size. The memory foam pillow, however, was a bit of a surprise to me. Having never had anything in memory foam, I only had a standard pillow as comparison. I was glad to see that I could chose either the contoured pillow, or the standard pillow shape. The memory foam was much denser (of course) which made it much heavier. I have pillow cases that button the one end and this pillow just barely fits into the case. Overall, both seemed like fun test subjects for my husband and I. We set out to try each pillow for one week, then switch with each other.
After Much Needed Sleep Impressions
Husband thoughts: “I’ve never slept on a memory foam pillow before. It was a little hard when I first put my head upon the pillow, but it feels as though it is starting to shape to my head shape. I’m getting a very good night’s sleep as well – the alarm seems to come too fast!” Still, he did feel that there was a bounce or plush-ness to the pillow.
My thoughts: “I also never slept on a memory foam pillow. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I tend to sleep on my side or stomach, so I often buy the thinnest pillow for comfort. That comfort rarely lasts. The memory foam pillow was a harder surface to sleep on than I am accustomed to, but I got a full and sound night’s sleep. It did take me a while to fall to sleep, mainly because I tend to cuddle with my pillow by having my shoulder nearly under it, and the memory foam didn’t allow me to do this”.
Faux Down Pillow
On the Nature’s Sleep website, this pillow is referred as the “Teddy Bear” of pillows. They suggest that it is a great pillow for anyone who sleeps on their side or stomach, or who likes a scrunchable, huggable pillow” Hello… that just described yours truly!
Husband’s thoughts: He was “fine” with this pillow. I’m attributing his lack of enthusiasm to the fact that he sleeps on his back and rarely moves. Seriously, I sometimes put my hand on his chest just to feel the rise and fall and check on him! Anyway, he thought this was a nice pillow but he wasn’t as thrilled as I was (as you’ll read below).
My thoughts: “I l.o.v.e this pillow. It’s seriously the perfect pillow for me. I could cuddle this pillow and sleep soundly. My head hits the pillow and I’m relaxed. It’s only been a week, but I do not find myself having to fluff the pillow or contort it to be comfortable. So far it’s been keeping it’s shape and fluffiness and I am sleeping so well. This is now MY pillow”
We both had different thoughts about the pillows and I attribute some of those differences to the fact that we sleep in such different positions. We were both very impressed with each pillow, and I was happy to find the pillows had cotton covers that were removable and washable.
