I admit, I never thought about going to a professional lacrosse game. In my mind, the options were hockey, basketball, baseball, and football. When the Philadelphia Wings invited my family and I to their home opener, I was curious and excited for a change of pace. We hadn’t gone to a live sporting event in quite a while.
The atmosphere when we got there was just like any other game, lots of energy and team pride. We couldn’t wait to get to our seats which ended up being fantastic for watching the game.
We were surprised that the team had their own cheerleaders, although there wasn’t a spot for them on the floor. They would show up around various parts of the Wells Fargo Center and the announcer would draw our attention to what they were doing. We noted that there was an awful lot of padding on the goalie until we saw the ball thrown and said “OUCH! Ok, that makes sense.” My husband loved the selection of music: rock! In short, we had a lot of fun!
We brought our two sons (1 & 4) and spotted MANY other little fans, it was completely kid friendly. As for the game itself, it was a nail biter. At first, the Wings and the Buffalo Bandits exchanged goals, usually never more than 1 or 2 ahead of the other. Then the Bandits pulled far ahead at the end of the first half. The Wings rallied and came back to tie by the end, sending the game into overtime. Unfortunately, it was first to score wins and the Bandits did just that. But we are still proud to say we’re new fans of the Philadelphia Wings.
There are just 7 games left at the Wells Fargo Center this season. I highly recommend getting out of the house this winter and checking out a Wings game!
We were provided tickets to the Philadelphia Wings home opener to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% my own.
