Last night my family and I were lucky to attend opening night for Varekai from Cirque du Soleil at the Wells Fargo Center. It was our first time to a Cirque du Soleil show but it won’t be our last. It was incredible!
It did start out loud and dark which scared my boys a little bit, but they were over their fears quickly as they watched creatures dance and tumble across the stage. Seriously impressive acrobatics alternated with lighthearted, humorous skits making for a show that kept ours and our sons’ attention all night.
It is the story of a man that falls from the sky and is saved by creatures in a magical forest. We witnessed two different people swinging through the air and ending their acts by being suspended by only the backs of their necks! I was in complete awe both times. A favorite for us were the 2 hilarious people that first go through the crowd dressed as ushers and playing tricks on people, to then popping up in different parts of the show and completely cracking us up. I have to say, the acrobats at the end were the best part for my boys as they screamed every time they were flung into the air.
I don’t want to give too much away, I really think you all need to go see for yourself! Varekai will perform at the Wells Fargo Center from September 10 – 14, 2014 for seven performances only.
