Disclosure: We were provided a Handmade, Wooden Rattle from Manzanita Kids to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% my own.
Fact: I am obsessed with Etsy. In addition to operating my own Etsy shop, I loveeeee browsing the incredible variety of handmade and vintage products for sale on the website. As a mom, I really appreciate the vast selection of products for babies and kids. From newborn headbands, colorful bibs and burp cloths and unique handmade playthings to awesome personalized gifts and custom EVERYTHING, my ‘favorites’ list is about 9 miles long.
One late night while rocking a fussy, teething little baby back to sleep, I stumbled across Manzanita Kids on my Etsy app. As I perused the shop, I was struck by the beautiful variety of handmade wooden toys – blocks, teethers, rattles, puzzles, stacking toys, doll houses. Every single item was gorgeous in its simplicity and ‘old school’ appeal, yet decidedly modern and unique in its design. I was in love, and I couldn’t wait to try a toy out and share this fabulous shop with my fellow Montco Moms.
But, in a world where 90% of toys are brightly colored, logo emblazoned noisemakers, I wondered what my 9 month-old son, Maddox, would think of a simple wooden rattle. I reached out to the shop owners and immediately heard back from David (total sweetie) who was excited to work with Montco Moms on a review and…….waitforit…..A GIVEAWAY! We love those, right??
Within a few days, our package from Manzanita Kids arrived and I was thrilled to find two adorable wooden fox rattles inside. Before I knew it, Maddox had snatched a fox right out of my lap and started shaking it wildly. He giggled and laughed as he played and within a few minutes, my 2 year-old daughter happily joined in the fun. Maddox didn’t let go of that fox all day long. He took it on the Strasburg Railroad with us. He even fell asleep in his car seat holding it, and brought it into his crib at naptime. Besides being a delightful natural sounding rattle and woodland companion for his Curious George toy, Maddox soon learned that this little fox is the BEST TEETHER EVER.
Let me tell you, I have single-handedly kept the teether industry in business over the last few months. I’ve tried every make and model of teether out there. I’ve found my Itzy Ritzy teething bracelets provide the most relief for my little guy, but sometimes Maddox casts those aside and begins to chew on…me. Ouch. Then came our little fox friend, and it has been a handcrafted, eco-friendly, all-natural, American made MIRACLE. The hardwood is sanded smooth and splinter-free, then rubbed with organic jojoba oil and beeswax, making it safe and soothing for little gums. The fox’s tail even serves as the perfect holder. Think ‘drumstick’.
Besides being grateful to David and Adrienne for providing my teething kiddo with much-needed relief, I also applaud them for their inventive and beautifully made children’s toys. They have crafted a self-described ‘Montessori inspired’ line of products with a valuable emphasis on creativity and learning through play. No lights. No sounds. Just imagination. The toys are appealing to kids of all ages, and the owners are sweet as can be. I can’t wait to get a tree house to play with when the kids go to sleep for my kids!
I encourage you all to hop online and check out the Manzanita Kids Etsy shop. You’re sure to find something your kids will love! And don’t forget to enter our giveaway! Good luck!
