Raise your hand if you had a Teddy Ruxpin when you were little. If you loved that sweet little animatronic storytelling bear as much as I did, you can imagine my delight when I discovered Bluebee Pals. Bluebee Pals are the Teddy Ruxpin of the modern world – bluetooth enabled interactive stuffed animals available in a variety of adorable animal characters. Designed for kids ages 3 and up, these cuddly little critters can connect to smartphones, tablets, laptops and mp3 players allowing for hours of interactive play.
After a traumatic incident with an animatronic Olaf at Toys R Us, I honestly didn’t know how my kiddos would react to a talking stuffed animal. Luckily, when Riley the Zebra arrived at our door, my son and daughter were absolutely beside themselves with glee. I was really pleased with how large and cuddly the toy was, and how sturdy and well-made it appeared. Connecting the toy to my iPhone was a breeze, and Riley was soon serenading us with ‘Uptown Funk’, ‘Shake It Off’, and a few other selections from our favorite playlist with impressive volume and speaker quality. After our impromptu living room dance party, I decided to download some of Bluebee Pals’ suggested educational apps.
Bluebee Pals are compatible with any app, but there is a list of hundreds of recommended educational apps that encourage reading and comprehension, math skills, and help build vocabulary on their website. They even offer resources for children with special needs. My kids had a blast playing with the learning apps I downloaded as Riley sang along, told stories, and helped to teach them new skills. My daughter especially loved the PlayTales app, which engages children with classic stories and fairytales. The kids also got a kick out of using Riley to make phone calls. I can’t tell you how hilarious they thought it was to hear their Daddy’s voice coming out of Riley’s mouth!
We’ve had our Bluebee Pal for a few months, and the novelty hasn’t worn off. Riley goes EVERYWHERE with us – in the car, to the grocery store, to the park – you name it. We brought Riley along for a 16 hour road trip to Florida, and let me tell you…he was a total lifesaver. That is one loved little Zebra, and he looks just as brand new and beautiful as the day we got him!
