Last week, the kids and I joined my brother-in-law Ralph for lunch at Tradestone Cafe in Conshohocken. Tradestone Cafe originally began as an online chocolatier, eventually opening a storefront and cafe on Fayette Street. While continuing their emphasis on gourmet chocolates, Tradestone also offers a great variety of soups, salads and sandwiches, as well as breakfast sandwiches and specialty coffee drinks.
Exposed brick, hardwood floors, and a vintage tin ceiling create a warm and inviting space with a modern chic feel. High chairs are readily available and there is plenty of seating and room for stroller parking. It’s a great space in a great location, perfect for a quick bite followed by an obscene amount of amazing chocolate.
With fresh bread baked daily and meats roasted in-house, Tradestone’s sandwiches are pretty spectacular. Ralph ordered the Roast Beef sandwich with caramelized onions, provolone, and horseradish on ciabatta bread, while I chose the Country Ham sandwich with brie, green apple, and dijonnaise on a baguette. Both sandwiches were delicious! Ralph and I agreed that the bread was the crown jewel of the sandwich, and that the ratio of lettuce and tomato to meat was dead on (and we all know that can make or break a sandwich). My sandwich passed the Kid Test as well, and (much to my dismay) both of my munchkins ignored the food I packed for them and happily nibbled on my sandwich throughout the meal.
For dessert, we sampled a variety of Tradestone’s signature chocolates: pistachio citrus, hazelnut, raspberry, salted peanut (OMG), Tahitian vanilla, double mint, and honey almond. The chocolate was, in a word, reallyreallyfreakinggood. If there’s one thing I know, it’s chocolate, and Tradestone has some damn good chocolate. It was so good in fact, that I maaaaaaay have possibly lied to my daughter in the car on the way home and told her the box of chocolates we brought home was empty, and then waited until she was asleep in her car seat before cramming my face full of Tradestone’s glorious chocolate treats. But that’s neither here nor there. Chocolates are available for individual purchase or in beautifully packaged gift sets, which you can also purchase online.
Needless to say, we had a wonderful experience at Tradestone, and I’m eager to visit again soon. And next time, I will know to get double the sandwiches and quadruple the chocolates…
