Disclosure: I received an Avo Babies Silicone Portable Manual Breast Pump to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% my own.
I’d always toyed with idea of purchasing a manual breast pump over the years, but for whatever reason just never got around to it. I’ve always had a very active supply and can become easily engorged if there’s not a hungry baby or pump nearby. Often I’ve thought it would be nice to have a tiny pump that was easy to transport for those times when I needed some quick relief, but I always just powered through. Besides that, I hate seeing soaked nursing pads and wondering how much leaked milk is going to waste. Then I discovered the Avo Babies Silicone Portable Manual Breast Pump, and I knew I needed it to give it a try.
When my Avo pump arrived, I was amazed by how tiny and lightweight it was. The small, clear pump is made from 100% food grade silicone, and fits in the palm of your hand. The pump includes a lid and storage bag, which are great bonus features. This pump isn’t like other manual pumps that simulate a baby’s sucking motion. Instead, you position the pump over the nipple, squeeze the pump a few times to create a vacuum seal on the breast, and off you go. Once the pump is comfortably suctioned on the breast, there is a steady stream of milk into the receptacle. It’s actually pretty incredible how effective this little pump is. Definitely a breastfeeding game changer!
There are so many situations where this pump would be incredibly helpful, but it’s especially great for collecting milk on one breast while feeding baby on the other. The added suction allows for maximum collection, and I was able to collect a full ounce the first try.
In addition to being super compact and insanely quiet (no motor sounds!), I love that the pump doesn’t have five billion pieces to clean. It’s top rack dishwasher safe, but also super easy to hand wash as well. While the lid ensures that there is no crying over spilled milk, it also keeps the pump sterile after washing.
The Avo Babies Silicone Portable Manual Breast Pump will come in super handy while on the go, and will provide much needed relief for overnight engorgement and leaking. The travel bag keeps your pump clean and discreet, and tucks neatly into a diaper bag or purse. I plan on keeping my pump in my ‘nursing basket’, and buying a second pump to keep in the diaper bag at all times. Honestly, I don’t know how I existed this long without this pump!
The best part may in fact be the price. Regularly an affordable $24.99 on Amazon, it’s currently on sale for $11.97! I mean…how do you NOT buy one?! Besides, you really DO need one if you’re a nursing mom. Trust me.
