As much as I don’t want to admit it, summer is almost over and that means its time to start thinking about what is going to go into those lunchboxes come September. Giant’s team of certified nutritionists are available at several area locations for one-on-one consultations to answer your nutrition-related questions. Making healthy choices to meet your family’s needs has never been easier. For $20, you’ll get a one hour private consultation with a nutritionist AND a $20 Giant gift card (so basically, it’s free!).
My four children and I recently met with Mary Ann Moylan RD, LDN, CDE at the Willow Grove Giant for a private nutrition consultation. As a family frequently on-the-go, I’m always searching for healthy AND convenient snack and meal options for the kiddos. I’m also always interested in finding creative ways to present healthy foods to my kids. Mary Ann was very helpful in providing ideas on how to keep our grab and go snacks as healthy as possible, and she also had a lot of great suggestions for fun, delicious and even interactive healthy meals. Mixing up our meals and avoiding mealtime ruts will definitely help keep my kids from getting bored with healthy foods.
At the appointment, Mary Ann provided literature on dietary guidelines for healthy preschoolers, helpful information about nutritious snacks, health themed coloring books for the kids, and an assortment of recipes that would appeal to my kids AND pack a nutritional punch. As we went over the dietary guidelines, Mary Ann suggested lots of great snack ideas that would not only tempt my daughter’s sometimes fickle taste buds, but are easy to take along on our adventures. My kids really enjoyed using Mary Ann’s ‘play food’ to create balanced meals using fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains and dairy items as their building blocks. After our sit down, Mary Ann took us on a tour of Giant’s impressive health food section, pointing out products that were low in sugar and sodium, high in protein and sure to appeal to my little ones (hint – GIANT brand protein granola bars are DELICIOUS).
Our experience using GIANT’s health and wellness resources was wonderful, and I look forward to using these tools to keep my family as happy and healthy as possible!
